Women can expect that following this procedure sex will be more enjoyable not only for themselves, but for their partners as well. This surgery can also relieve symptoms and discomfort from a torn vagina, pubic prolapse as well as stress incontinence that can cause leakage of urine during sex, sneezing, coughing and physical exertion. The surgery will improve muscle tone in the vagina, remove excess vaginal lining and reduce the size of the vaginal opening. This gynecological procedure involves an incision made inside the vaginal canal. Muscles that have been stretched during childbirth, or have become loose or lacking in tone because of age or simply because of an unusually large vagina will be pulled together to restore tone and sutured into place by the surgeon.
The muscles throughout the entire length of the vagina are tightened, as are the supporting structures and soft tissues. Once the muscles and tissues have been tightened, there will be an excessive amount of vaginal lining that is carefully trimmed away and stitched closed. In the process of this surgery, the actual diameter of the vaginal opening is reduced and muscle tone will be improved. Scarring from the incisions is inside of the vagina, and is not visible. The surgery can be performed either under a general anaesthesia, or with a local anaesthesia and sedation. The procedure will take approximately one hour.
Following surgery, swelling and soreness are common. Most patients will find that they are able to walk comfortable after a few days. Recovery will generally take no more than one week, and most women will be able to return to normal activities after this time. It is necessary, however, to allow the muscles and tissues in the vagina to completely recover before engaging in sex. Sexual activities can most often be resumed within four to six weeks after surgery.
